Chrissie Hynde Calls Young Pop Stars "Sex Workers", Chrissie Hynde new book Reckless: My Life As A Pretender details her sexual assault when she was a young woman. She’s come under fire recently for comments she made about rape and rape culture.
Hynde recently appeared on the BBC Radio to speak about the book and many of the experiences detailed in it. Naturally, her comments about rape came up to which Hynde said, “I don’t read my press so I’m a little bit out of it on this… All I said was in my case was that I shouldn’t have been there.” She continued, “I was talking about my situation, I wasn’t talking about anyone else’s.”
Hynde slammed pop stars that call themselves feminists. “It’s provoked by this pornography culture, it’s provoked by pop stars who call themselves feminists, but maybe they’re feminists on behalf of prostitutes, but they are not feminists on behalf of music, if they are selling their music by bumping and grinding and wearing their underwear in videos. That’s a kind of feminism, but, you’re a sex worker is what you are.” She added, “I think it’s provocative in a way that has nothing to do with music.”
