Donald Trump Tom Brady, If we’re learned nothing else from this presidential campaign, we’ve learned that Donald Trump is a great self-promoter. And so it should come as no surprise that Trump has figured out a way to get his name in the news by discussing Deflategate.
Trump said on FOX Business Channel that he and Tom Brady are close, and that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was wrong to suspend Brady.
“I think it’s ridiculous the way they’ve treated him,” Trump said of Brady. “He’s a friend of mine, he’s a great friend of mine, he’s a great guy, and I think it’s ridiculous the way they’ve treated him. To spend $10 million in legal fees, and now it’s probably higher than that, it’s crazy. He’s a great star. They ought to go back to playing football. This country has bigger problems.”
Trump also offered some fantasy football advice, saying he’d make Brady his first pick.
“Tom Brady is just a great guy and I always take Tom Brady,” he said. “If you’ve done some friendly bets on Tom Brady you’ve done very well.”
In 1988, there was talk of Trump buying the Patriots. Trump passed on a chance to own the team that Tom Brady would later lead, but Trump remains a fan.
