Where Man Utd stand on Jadon Sancho transfer as unpopular contract clause in play
Where Man Utd stand on Jadon Sancho transfer as unpopular contract clause in play, Manchester United are still hopeful of a deal for England ace Jadon Sancho, and not even the unpopular prospect of helping out rivals Manchester City is putting them off.
Should Sancho move from Borussia Dortmund to United for a British record fee of around £105million, any deal would have to be done quickly as Dortmund look to complete it before they head off for a pre-season training camp on August 10.
Mirror Sport understands that the finishing touches to Sancho's contract are being put together, with the 20-year-old set to treble his wages as his earnings go to between £200,000 and £220,000 a week if the clubs can agree a fee and he eventually signs.
With Red Devils misfit Alexis Sanchez on the verge of completing a permanent move to Inter Milan, Sancho would also be set to inherit the United No.7 shirt previously worn by the likes of George Best, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The acquisition of a pacy player who can play off the right hand side is one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's transfer priorities for this summer, as the Norwegian bids to try and make up the 33-point gap to Premier League champions Liverpool in the new season.
Manchester City will still be seen as the favourites to challenge Jurgen Klopp's side in 2020/21, and they will benefit from the move back to Manchester for their former youth product.
Sancho never played for City's first-team after he joined from the Watford academy as a 14-year-old in 2015.
Just over two years later, and having turned 17, it was Sancho's failure to break into the first-team picture under Pep Guardiola that turned his head towards a move to the Bundesliga to join Dortmund.
City didn't want to lose him, but they negotiated a sell-on fee into his £8million transfer to ensure that they would receive 15 per cent of any future profit that the German giants would make on the Englishman.
Three years on, and after Sancho has scored 34 goals in 99 games for Dortmund, as well as picking up 11 England caps, his club seem set to cash in a profit close to £100million.
City will bank some of that cash, potentially up to £15million, with a large portion of that covering the imminent arrival of the £20.9million winger Ferran Torres from Valencia.
Torres, a Spain under-21 international, will put the finishing touches to his switch to the Etihad Stadium this week.
Guardiola's side are also on the verge of finalising a £41million deal for the Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake as they remodel their side ahead of the new campaign.
That will be of little concern to United though, who are closing in on a deal for Solskjaer's top summer target and a player who will certainly excite their fans, regardless of his City past.
