The South Korean picked up the ball just outside his area, then covering 70 meters in 12 seconds and 12 touches, beating multiple men on the way before slotting home beyond a helpless Nick Pope in a 5-0 win against Burnley.
Of the goal at the time, Gary Lineker, who scored 67 goals during his time with Tottenham, said: "Wow. Son has just scored one of the greatest individual goals you’re ever likely to see. Goal of the season, me thinks.
Son beat competitions from Leicester City's Harvery Barnes, Southampton's Moussa Djenepo, Newcastle United's Matty Longstaff, Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne, Brighton's Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Burnley's Matej Vydra and Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes.
Jose Mourinho compared the goal to one scored by Ronaldo Nazario for Barcelona when the manager was working under Sir Bobby Robson.
"Even before this goal, my son calls him Son-aldo, Son-aldo Nazario - and today he was Son-aldo Nazario," said Mourinho.
"The only thing that comes to my mind is the goal where I had the honour to be seated next to Sir Bobby Robson, it was Compostela-Barcelona, 1996, and Ronaldo Nazario got the ball behind the midfield line and scored a very similar goal to Son. Amazing goal."
