Kate Del Castillo, Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, who has been in the news for the past week for helping to mediate the interview between drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and Sean Penn, has broken her social media silence following the frenzy.
The telenovela star posted on her Twitter account on Wednesday, thanking fans for their support, but calling some of the stories “untruthful.”
“Thank you for your support over the past few days,” Castillo wrote, tweeting messages in both Spanish and English. “Not surprisingly, many have chosen to make up items they think will make good stories and that aren’t truthful. I look forward to sharing my story with you.”
Guzman was recaptured by Mexican authorities on Friday after escaping from federal prison in July. Police say that Penn’s Rolling Stone interview with Guzman helped authorities find one of the world’s most-wanted men.
Both Penn and del Castillo are under investigation for their involvement with Guzman. Penn makes it clear in his Rolling Stone interview that del Castillo was the key instigator of the meeting. The “La Reina del Sur” star first contacted El Chapo in 2012, after writing on Twitter, “Today I believe more in Chapo Guzman than in governments.” The two-minute video that was run with the interview also carried a “All rights reserved, Kate del Castillo Productions.
