Woman Arrested for DUI After Streaming Drunk Driving on Periscope, We have another Periscope-related arrest after a Florida woman inexplicably livestreamed her drunk driving.
23-year-old Whitney Marie Bell was arrested in Lakeland, Florida, on October 10 after recording seven Periscope videos.I’m f—king drunk, and this is horrible,” she said in one of the videos, per local ABC affiliate WFTS. “I don’t even know where the next gas station is. This is horrible, guys.”A lot of viewers found the situation horrible, too, though for different reasons — calling the police to report Whitney’s wild ride.
“She’s really drunk,” one viewer said in a 911 call. “She just hit something. She might be driving with a flat tire. She’s in a Toyota.”
Other Periscope users tried to message her with pleas to pull over.Cops used visual cues in Whitney’s videos to locate her and eventually tracked her down. Whitney failed a field sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer test. She was jailed and then released on bond.
At least Whitney’s night didn’t cost any lives. In 2013, another Florida woman tweeted “2 drunk 2 care” before crashing into another car and killing the two women inside.
So, let this serve as a friendly reminder: don’t drink and drive, and don’t text/tweet/Periscope/use your phone at all and drive.
