Erin Andrews seeks $75 million in hotel peephole case, Erin Andrews wants $75 million in a lawsuit over a hotel room peephole incident. The Fox sideline reporter and “Dancing With the Stars” co-host is suing Marriott International, Windsor Capital Group and Michael David Barrett for negligence and invasion of privacy over the 2008 incident in which she was secretly taped by Barrett through a Nashville hotel room peephole while nude, according to Sports Illustrated on Friday.Erin Andrews originally filed the lawsuit in 2011, but this week was ordered to specify the amount of damages after defense lawyers sought a judicial order for her to do so.
The Smoking Gun obtained court documents which showed Andrews’ amended claim seeking the $75 million, plus costs and interest “and any other costs this Court deems fair.” Andrews named the hotel chain in her suit because Marriott employees told Barrett she was staying at the hotel, gave him her room number and booked him into the room next door to hers.
In 2008, Barrett allegedly gouged out hotel door peepholes and recorded a naked Andrews on his cellphone. The insurance exec then made nude videos of the sideline reporter and posted the viral videos online. But when Barrett attempted to sell footage to TMZ, an employee of the celebrity gossip site notified Andrews's attorney. Barrett was arrested by the FBI and pleaded guilty to interstate stalking in 2010. He was sentenced to 30 months in jail. A trial date for the revised invasion of privacy suit has been set for February and is expected to last 10 days.
While Erin Andrews hopes to end this chapter of her life with the lawsuit, she has gone on record as saying she is still scarred from the stalking incident and peephole videos. "It's my body on the Internet," she told ESPN. "I'm being traumatized every single day for what he did. ... This will never be over for me."
