El Chapo Escape: 6 Who Helped Drug Lord Break Out of Prison Are Arrested

El Chapo Escape: 6 Who Helped Drug Lord Break Out of Prison Are Arrested, Six people who allegedly organized the escape of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman through a mile-long tunnel beneath a Mexican prison are under arrest, and Mexico's leaders this week reiterated their focus on getting the drug cartel leader back behind bars.

Mexican authorities reported Thursday that they have arrested, among others, Guzman's brother-in-law and a member of his legal team whom authorities believe masterminded the escape, Fox News said. No names have officially been released.
"We will keep working together until we achieve his [El Chapo's] recapture," Mexico's Attorney General Arely Gomez told CNN. "Guzman managed to escape from prison, but neither he nor those who helped him will escape from justice."

Gomez told Fox News that 23 prison workers in total have been arrested in connection with Guzman's escape.

The July escape sparked criticism of the country's justice system. Last week, NBC News reported that Guzman injured his leg and face as special forces attempted to recapture him.

Mexican Marines had received information that El Chapo was hiding in western Mexico on a ranch but, when they approached, they faced gunfire from what they suspect were members of Guzman's security forces, NBC said. When they were able to enter the camp later, they found cell phones, medication, and two-way radios, but it is believed Guzman and others escaped by ATV.
