Texas teen rescued after trapped in school safe for 3 hours, He's safe and sound. A 16-year-old is finally free after spending nearly three hours trapped inside of a combination safe at his Texas high school on Friday, according to local reports.
Firefighters were called to the San Antonio school around noon after the student somehow got inside of the 2-feet-wide by 4-feet-deep box in the school's ROTC area.
District spokeswoman Michelle Jimenez described the safe to KSAT as a "very solid, government-issued type" from the 70s.
As first-responders worked to free the Edison High School junior, air holes were drilled through the walls and an airline was inserted to increase oxygen flow.
The boy's mother was meanwhile notified and given regular updates on their progress, Jimenez said.
Once freed around 3 p.m., local time, he was described as doing well and unsurprisingly happy to be out, safe.
