Summer Box-Office Flops: 'Tomorrowland,' 'Fantastic Four' Top List

Summer Box-Office Flops: 'Tomorrowland,' 'Fantastic Four' Top List, Summer 2015 is expected to go down as one of the biggest in history in terms of overall revenue, but there were a number of high-profile bombs that have left some Hollywood studios smarting.

Big stars that got dinged include George Clooney (Tomorrowland), Adam Sandler (Pixels) and Bradley Cooper (Aloha). Directors that took it on the chin were Brad Bird (Tomorrowland), Josh Trank (Fantastic Four), Cameron Crowe (Aloha) and Guy Ritchie (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.)

Here are five big bombs of the season when accounting for budget, marketing spend and revenue the film can expect to earn in ancillary markets. Grosses are through Sept. 4, with several titles still in release worldwide.

Tomorrowland (Disney, May 22)

Budget: $190 million

Global gross: $208.4 million

Expected loss: $120 million-$150 million

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion) and Pixar's Inside Out ($703 million), which is still rolling out overseas, will go a long way in helping Disney absorb the loss.

*Still in release.
