Sam Smith Spectre

Sam Smith Spectre, British singer Sam Smith has dropped a major hint that he'll be recording the theme song for the upcoming James Bond film, Spectre.

Smith posted a mysterious black-and-white photo of a hand (presumably his) wearing a ring emblazoned with Spectre's menacing Octopus logo on social media Monday, Sept. 7. See the Instagram pic below. The image, which Smith tweeted and Instagrammed, didn't include any written caption, but one could take it as confirmation that he'll be singing the new film's theme song. Billboard has reached out to Smith's representatives for comment.

In late July, Spectre director Sam Mendes said the theme song had already been recorded and was sounding "fantastic." The director also noted that fans wouldn't have to "wait long" to find out the face (or faces) behind the mic. Adele won both an Oscar and Golden Globe in 2013 for the theme song she recorded for the last film in the Bond franchise, Skyfall. Meanwhile, the rumor mills have been churning as to who might have been scouring for words to rhyme with Spectre (funeral director?)

In addition to Smith, other possible artists in the running include Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Adele, Lana Del Rey, Lorde and Noel Gallagher.
