Safeway recalls field cucumbers for possible Salmonella contamination, Safeway is recalling field cucumbers as well as some made-in-store products that contain cucumbers due to possible salmonella contamination.
The recall covers unwrapped field cucumbers as well as Greek salad, vegetable trays, sushi and sandwiches, all purchased on or before Sept. 6, 2015.
If you have the items in your home, you're advised to throw them out or return them to the store where they were purchased.
Salmonella can make you sick, and in more vulnerable segments of society — young children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems — may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections.
In healthy individuals, the short-term symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The potentially contaminated items have been sold in Safeway stores in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
