An additional $192,000 has been collected by volunteers manning the Chevron gas station where Goforth was killed a little more than week ago.
"I have been in and around law enforcement for many years, this is one of the largest outpourings of support I have ever seen," said Rick Hartley, President of the 100 Club.Goforth, 47, was in uniform when he was killed while putting fuel in his patrol car. A 30-year-old Houston man is charged with capital murder. Investigators are still trying to determine a motive.
Supporters are also printing signs, making T-shirts and selling ribbons in honor of Goforth. All of the proceeds are going to the Goforth family.
The deputy's friends and colleagues say the support from in and around Houston is heartwarming.
"It's very overwhelming," said Deputy Marc De Leon. "I love the support we are getting, people saying thank you and they appreciate what you do."
