Joshua Ryne Goldberg: Kansas City 9/11 terror plot planned, Goldberg arrested, Joshua Ryne Goldberg was arrested for allegedly planning a 9/11 terror attack in Kansas City for this weekend. Goldberg was planning to set off a bomb on Sunday during the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event. An undercover informant said Goldberg gave him clear instructions on how to create and detonate the bomb, according to MSN on Thursday.The unidentified informant confronted Goldberg about helping with the attack. Goldberg, 20, from Orange Park, Florida, told the informant that he wanted to construct a pressure cooker bomb. Reportedly, the bomb was to contain metal and glass shrapnel covered in rat poison, which acts a blood thinner, so victims would bleed out.
Local FBI agents say Goldberg provided clear and detailed instructions to their informant on how to make the bomb, even stating in August that he hoped there would be "some jihad on the anniversary of 9/11."
"I was thinking a bombing. We could make pipe bombs and detonate them at a large public event. It needs to be big," said Goldberg, who was living with his parents in Florida at the time.
Goldberg met the informant on Twitter when he was posing as an Isis jihadist living in Perth using the name Australi Witness. Federal authorities had enough evidence from the informant to arrest Goldberg on Thursday and charge him with distributing information related to explosives and weapons of mass destruction.
The Jewish, non-Muslim Clay County, Florida man had also been planning an attack in Australia, according to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald on Friday. Goldberg's plan was to kill as many firefighters as possible on Sunday during the annual Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
Joshua Ryne Goldberg had also posted messages on pro-Islamic State websites and took credit for the Muhammad Art Exhibit and Contest attack on May 3 in Garland, Texas where two people died. Goldberg's father, Frank Goldberg, told news media that he was shocked by the allegations, saying "We have no information to give you. I don't mind talking to you at a later time about what happened."
