Jason Pierre-Paul, After spending the past two months rehabbing away from the New York Giants, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is reportedly set to rejoin the club.
Pierre-Paul flew to New York on Monday to take a physical with the team, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
A source told Ed Werder of ESPN that Pierre-Paul provided the Giants with full medical records pertaining to his Fourth of July fireworks accident, which resulted in the loss of his right index finger, along with video of his offseason workouts.
Pierre-Paul is reportedly fully healed from his finger amputation and wants to play in Week 1, though at this point, that seems unlikely.
There are no broken bones in his hand, but he still has it wrapped for protection and will play with a cast, according to Rapoport.
The 26-year-old has kept a relatively low profile since the accident, and Giants owner John Mara was admittedly frustrated by the player's refusal to accept help from team doctors.
The Giants plan to have Mara, general manager Jerry Reese, and head coach Tom Coughlin meet with Pierre-Paul once he's ready, Rapoport reports.
The former University of South Florida star has yet to sign his $14.8-million franchise tender. Once he does, the Giants could place him on the non-football injury list and not pay him for the first six weeks of the season. This is one of the reasons he's stayed away from the team, and why the two sides are likely to rework his contract before he signs it, according to Rapoport.
