Director Marcin Wrona found dead in hotel room, Poland's film authorities say director Marcin Wrona, whose horror movie "Demon" made its world premiere last week in Toronto, has died unexpectedly at age 42. Below is a statement released by a personal friend of Marcin's, Jim Dobson, on behalf of the family. Wrona was preparing for the Polish premiere of the film at the Gdynia Film Festival.

The film premieres in the U.S.at the Fantastic Fest later this month in Austin, Texas, and in Spain at the Sitges Film Festival in October.

Prosecutors said no one is suspected of having a role in his death but an autopsy will be performed next week. "His film Demon truly marked the emergence of a strong new voice on the world cinema stage". "We would like to express our honest condolences to the wife of the director and all the people who were close to him", event organizers said.

The final screening for the film is scheduled to take place this evening at 9:15 p.m.at Toronto's Scotiabank Theatre.

Wrona, who was born in the city of Tarnów in southern Poland in 1973, and was considered to be one of the brightest talents of his generation in the Polish film industry. The film touched on World War II and the Holocaust, painful elements of Poland's tragic past.

Wrona's third film, Demon focused on a "dybbuk", a Jewish spirit that haunts the living.Demon was co-produced by Olga Szymanska, who he had recently married. They had just signed with ICM Partners to sell the film and to break into the USA market with future films.

"Polish police are now investigating the death and no further information is available", the statement said.
