David Letterman returning to TV as correspondent for climate change series ‘Years of Living Dangerously'Talk show legend David Letterman is already returning to TV – but not in the way you'd expect.

The former "Late Show" host is trading his iconic desk for a plane ticket to India, where he'll appear as a correspondent on an episode of National Geographic's climate change documentary series, "Years of Living Dangerously," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Emmy-Award winning program's two producers, Joel Bach and David Gelber, identified Letterman as a fit after witnessing how engaged the talk show host used to get during conversations with scientists on his show.He seemed to perk up when this issue came across his lap," Bach told The Hollywood Reporter. "We reached out to him to see if he'd want to be part of this, and he said, 'Absolutely.' He said (climate change is) something he does think about a lot."

Letterman will reportedly speak to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the country's energy concerns. It will be the late night host’s first TV gig since retiring from “The Late Show” in May.

"It's thrilling to have him do this," Bach said. "We're beyond excited."

The comedian becomes the latest star to join the list of celebrities set to appear on the show's upcoming second season.

National Geographic Channels CEO Courteney Monroe believes the program drew the attention of such big stars since it addresses issues that affect everyone.

"What's interesting and important is this is not a political issue at all, but it's an incredibly important issue that affects all of us as people living on this planet," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think that's why they're able to attract the names that they've attracted."
