Sources: Kings sign Marshall Henderson, It was not too long ago that Marshall Henderson‘s mix of brashness and marksmanship was being celebrated in Oxford.Henderson had a penchant for taunting the crowd and backing it up with outstanding shot making from distance. He helped guide Andy Kennedy’s Ole Miss Rebels in 2012-13 to a 27-9 record and an appearance in the third round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Well it appears the 6-foot-2 guard has reappeared on the map for at least a tryout. According to Yahoo’s Mark J. Spears, Henderson has signed to play in training camp with the Sacramento Kings.
The Sacramento Kings have been stockpiling talent all summer long and in particular shooters when you think about Wisconsin’s Duje Dukan and Duke’s Seth Curry both linking up with the Kings, so nabbing Marshall Henderson just looks like it is fitting their latest trend.Henderson went undrafted in 2014 after averaging 19.0 points and shooting 35.3% from the field.
Since putting up those numbers he has been playing overseas in Iraq, Quatar, and Italy.
Overall, there was no denying the fact that Marshall Henderson knew how to put the ball in the hoop when he was at Mississippi.
Aside from the fact that most people found his antics to be a bit annoying on the court, he could catch fire on the basketball court and knockdown shots that had a degree of difficulty.
Off the court was a totally different issue. Henderson was busted by the police back in 2013 for having marijuana and cocaine on him.
Those troubles were a contributing factor as to why he was not taken as a second-rounder in the 2014 NBA Draft and why he has had to take his game overseas.
Marshall Henderson averaged 19.6 points in his two year at Ole Miss and the Rebels finished with a record of 46-23 in those years.
Chances are that Marshall Henderson gets some playing time in training camp and possibly a few minutes in the preseason before being shipped to the Reno Bighorns which is the Sacramento Kings D-League affiliate.The Reno Bighorns are actually a nice fit for Marshall Henderson’s shooting stroke since they led the D-League in three-point attempts per game with 46.9 treys per contest.
Marshall Henderson has an itchy trigger finger and given the fact that NBA teams need shooters there is no reason why Henderson shouldn’t at least get a glimpse.
The thing that is probably going to keep Henderson out of the NBA is the fact that his handle is not really up to par and at 6-foot-2 he would need to be able to put the ball on the floor and create opportunities for himself and others some.
