Julie Mott: Dead body stolen from casket still at large, motive unknown, After Julie Mott’s dead body was stolen in San Antonio, Texas, the funeral home owner is asking the public for help in retrieving the poor girl for the sake of the family.
In a related report by the Inquisitr, there are many theories on why anyone would steal Julie Mott’s body so brazenly.
The 25-year-old woman passed away on August 15, right before her 26th birthday was about to pass. This was quite the achievement since Mott suffered from a genetic disease called cystic fibrosis, which limits the ability to breathe and causes lung infections. In fact, doctors had only expected for Mott to live to the age of three years old.
Julie Mott’s Facebook page has been converted to a memorial page where friends and family have left messages.
“Happy birthday Julie,” wrote Lauren Schultz. “Even though we are saying our final goodbyes today, we will never forget you. I love you and miss you.”
Another friend named Kelsey Brown wrote, “You told me once about nine years ago that every day of your life was a miracle, just being alive, against all the odds. I remember you smiled as you said it. I’ve never forgotten those words, and I’ll never forget you.”
Friends and family were horrified when the news went out that the young woman’s body had been stolen shortly after the funeral service. The casket holding Mott’s body was moved into a hallway where it awaited transfer for cremation, but the next morning it was gone.
What’s worse, there are not any major clues to the identity of the thief.
“There wasn’t any forced entry to the facility,” said Sgt. Javier Salazar. “So, what it’s believed is between the hours of 1:30 p.m. when the service ended to about 4:30 p.m. when they locked up for the evening, someone came in and stole Ms. Mott’s remains. That person remains at large.”
Salazar said police are looking into several leads, but they do not know if the thief was a single person or even a group.
Dick Tips, the owner of Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, believes it is possible that Julie Mott’s body was stolen by someone who disagrees with cremation.
“I can’t believe this is happening to such dear friends of mine and she’s a dear friend of mine,” said Tips. “This is a person that I know. This is a person that I know and I want her back. We think it is possible that the fact that someone didn’t believe in the cremation process, versus the traditional burial process.”
So far, no one has provided the information necessary to catch the thief. According to Heavy, the case is similar to that of another dead body stolen in Texas. A blonde woman named Melinda Lee was killed by a drunk driver, but then someone stole her body. Police never recovered the corpse.
Despite the heartbreaking situation, police say Julie Mott’s family is staying strong.
“The most impressive thing in this whole investigation has been that family,” Salazar said, according to the San Antonio Express-News. “To lose somebody that was doing their best to live a full life in spite of their condition, to see this family go through that loss … and then be able to celebrate her life and then of course find the closure that many of us find with a funeral service, that was robbed from them.”
“We just want our daughter’s remains returned so we can have some closure to our grief,” said Tim Mott, Julie’s father.
Dick Tips is offering $20,000 to anyone who can give police a lead to finding Julie Mott’s body. Anyone who has information is asked to call 210-225-TIPS.
