Julie Mott: Body of dead 26-year-old Julie stolen from casket in funeral home, Julie Mott’s body was stolen from her casket which had been taken into a private visitation area in the back of the Mission Parks Funeral Chapel North in San Antonio, Texas. The Mission Parks Funeral Home is offering $20,000 to help catch the person or persons who stole Julie Mott’s dead body, reports CBS News on August 24.Tim Mott, Julie Mott’s father, is devastated about the theft of his daughter’s body. "We just want our daughter's remains returned so we can have some closure to our grief."
"It's really quite concerning," said San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar. "We are hoping that the public may be able to help assist us."
Julie Mott died from cystic fibrosis on August 8. Her funeral service ended on August 15 around 1:30 p.m., after which her casket was taken to the private visitation area. Police believe that Julie’s body was taken during the next three hours since the funeral home closes at 4:30 p.m. and is secured by an alarm. The funeral home does have motion detectors but no security cameras.
The fact that the funeral home’s alarm was not triggered any time after 4:30 p.m. and that there were no signs of forced entry has investigators believe that the three hours are the time frame during which Julie’s body was taken.
"The next morning when they came back to the funeral home, they discovered that the casket Ms. Mott had been in for the service was actually empty," said Sgt. Salazar. "Her remains had been removed."
Julie Mott’s missing body has made it even harder for her family members to deal with her death. Julie’s body was supposed to be cremated and her ashes returned to her grieving family for a final goodbye. San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar is appealing to the public for help: "Our intelligence unit has been investigating it literally around the clock," he said. "And so we're hoping that the public that hears about this case may be able to shed some light on it."
