The Packers announced that Nelson has a knee injury, but did not specify the severity. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Nelson's initial diagnosis was a torn ACL.The Packers also announced that starting guard T.J. Lang was being evaluated for a concussion.
After catching a short pass from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Nelson spun away from Steelers cornerback Antwon Blake before falling untouched to the Heinz Field turf. Nelson quickly got up, but motioned to the sideline as he limped off the field. Both Blake and Nelson had trouble with their footing on the play.The Packers were impressive on their opening series, with Rodgers completing all four of his pass attempts — two to Nelson for 24 yards. A 30-yard pass to Randall Cobb got the Packers inside Pittsburgh territory, leading to a 7-yard Eddie Lacy run to cap the 10-play, 80-yard drive.
