Caroline Kennedy Used Personal Email at US Embassy, Says IG, Caroline Kennedy is facing criticism after the State Department’s inspector general said she and others conducted government business through their personal e-mail accounts. Kennedy, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, was cited along with others for sending and receiving “sensitive but unclassified” information through unofficial addresses. “The Japan report was also critical of other aspects of the embassy and of its management by Ms. Kennedy, who was appointed to her post in 2013,” the New York Times reports. “It said that the State Department had not addressed some security vulnerabilities at the embassy and that communication between senior embassy leaders and the rank and file needed to be improved.”

MOVE ALONG: The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is signaling to Congress that there is no need to reform the patent appeals system as part of an update of the nation’s patent laws. “If lawmakers wind up taking the USPTO’s hint, the resulting legislation could hand tech companies a win and disappoint the groups that have been trying to tilt the legislation in their favor,” The Post reports. “In turn, that could have powerful implications for the nation’s intellectual property system and the way we reward future innovation and investment in this country.”
