Powers say 43-year-old Rhymes, whose genuine name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., was captured around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The episode happened at Steel Gym in the city's Chelsea neighborhood.
A representative for the New York Police Department says the Brooklyn-conceived rapper and the laborer had been included in a debate that escalated. He says Rhymes supposedly tossed a 17-ounce cardboard compartment of strawberry protein drink at the man, hitting him in the head. It wasn't immediately known whether there were wounds.
An attorney for Rhymes, known for his melodies "Gimme Some More" and "Hazardous," tells The Daily News he's certain Rhymes will beat the second degree ambush charge.
