American runner loses bronze medal after celebrating too early, Molly Huddle let the bronze medal slip through her fingers at the World Athletics Championship in Beijing on Monday.
The American distance runner celebrated her victory a moment too early and fellow American Emily Infeld crossed the finish line ahead of her, taking the medal, USA Today reports.
"Emily slipped on the inside as I eased up a little bit," Huddle told NBC Sports. "She had this once-in-a-lifetime moment. I fee like it kind of slipped through my fingers."
"The Olympics are typically a hard race, not a tactical one, so this probably won't ever come around again."
