The 36-year-old playmaker touches base as a free exchange. He is the group's third assigned player, following David Villa and Frank Lampard. On July 21, Pirlo will join New York City, which is 5-8-5 and 15 points behind pioneer D.C. United.
''I have been wanting this experience for quite a while and now that the open door emerged I needed to take it,'' he said on the New York club's site. ''This is a club on the ascent and shares my same appetite to accomplish essential results in the association.''
Pirlo said he had ''a few open doors'' to play outside Italy yet ''never had an uncertainty'' in selecting New York. He said he has met with mentor Jason Kreis, who gave him an ''awesome impression'' of the club.
''He has very much defined thoughts in mind, and I am certain we will get on well and make a decent relationship to train well and attempt to win together,'' Pirlo said.
Pirlo has spent his whole expert profession in Italy. An extraordinary passer, he has won two Champions League titles and six Italian alliance titles. He has shown up for Italy and was a piece of the 2006 World Cup-winning squad.
