"It was a slip-up to utilize an old joke about Vice President Biden amid his season of sadness, and I truly apologize," Cruz, a Texas congressperson looking for the 2016 Republican presidential designation, composed on Facebook.
"The loss of his child is grievous and lamentable, and our petitions to God are all that much with the Vice President and his gang."
U.S. media reported that Cruz had said on Wednesday in Michigan: "Joe Biden … You know what the decent thing is? You don't even need a punch line."
