New York prison inmates missing, Two sentenced killers got away from a most extreme security jail in upstate New York by slicing through a steel divider and taking after a progression of passages until they rose up out of a sewer vent outside the jail dividers, powers said Saturday evening.

Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, were found missing at the 5:30 a.m. "standing check" of detainees at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York State Police said on the office's Facebook page.

A serious manhunt was in progress with more than 200 law requirement officers searching for the men - the first to escape from the most extreme security part of the jail, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said at a public interview.

"These are unsafe individuals," he said. "They are not something to be played with."

The detainees obviously were most recently seen at 10:30 p.m. Friday amid a standing number, powers said.

Head tallies are performed like clockwork for the duration of the night when monitors outwardly verify whether prisoners are in their bunks, Clinton Correctional Facility Supervisor Steven Racette said.

Matt and Sweat deceived the gatekeepers by masterminding things in the bunks to look "like individuals were resting ... with these sweatshirt hoodies on," the senator said. The prisoners were found missing at the 5:30 a.m. prisoner check.

The men had next to each other cells and evidently had acquired force devices to slice through the steel divider in their cells, powers said.

The escapees took after a catwalk "down an involved labyrinth of funnels into passages and left a progression of passages at the sewer vent spread," Cuomo said.

Jail authorities took Cuomo through the getaway course.

"It was involved, it was complex," he said. "It included penetrating through steel dividers, steel funnels."

Powers don't know how the detainees got the force devices. Clinton Correctional Facility was assembled in 1845 and experiences standard upkeep, so its conceivable the devices originated from the foremen and workers who are frequently inside the office, Cuomo said.

Sweat was serving existence without any chance to appeal in the wake of being indicted first-degree kill in the passing of a Broome County sheriff's agent on July 4, 2002, state police said.Matt is serving 25 years to life. He was indicted on three numbers of homicide, three checks of capturing and two tallies of theft after he abducted a man and beat him to death in December 1997, the state police said.

The jail in the upper east corner of New York is the state's biggest jail with a populace of 2,689 prisoners, the revisions division said.

CNN partner WPTZ reported that state police have set up road obstructions in the Dannemora territory and that equipped troopers are looking vehicles. Troopers and prison guards are seeking the forested areas in the territory, as well.
