Fan suffers life-threatening injuries after being struck by broken bat, We regularly neglect and out and out overlook how hazardous the sport of baseball can be for the players on the field, and notwithstanding for the fans, who assemble in close nearness as baseballs and bats fly around at the recreation center at startling rates.
Tragically, we were hit with a disturbing update on Friday night at Fenway Park as one fan allegedly endured life-undermining wounds in the wake of being struck in the face by the barrel of Brett Lawrie's broken bat.
The terrifying occurrence happened in the second inning with Lawrie batting against Boston's Wade Miley. Lawrie was bound by the pitch, bringing on his bat to snap at the handle. The rough barrel was propelled into the stands to one side of home plate where it allegedly struck the fan.
This is the swing that did it.According to Boston police, the fan was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she's right now accepting treatment for her wounds. The casualty, who has not been distinguished, was at the amusement with her young child.

A security protect who saw the mishap said the lady endured genuine wounds to her face. A kid sitting close to the lady was shaken up, as indicated by the security protect.
Various fans saw the mischance, including Alex Merlas of Brookline.
"Brett Lawrie hit the ball and the bat snapped into equal parts close to the end of the bat," Merlas said. "It hit on the temple to the highest point of the head ... it was a gruff injury and it was a ton of blood. I don't think I've ever seen that much blood."
