White Sox retire Paul Konerko's No. 14 jersey

White Sox retire Paul Konerko's No. 14 jersey, The Chicago White Sox resigned Paul Konerko's No. 14 pullover Saturday before their diversion against the Minnesota Twins.

The fans droned ''Paulie! Paulie!'' as Konerko entered from the inside field fence and strolled through the outfield grass to home plate. He then looked as his family numberd down the revealing of his number on the exterior above home plate.

''I know most players that are considered for something like this can take years once in a while to get one of (statue) or (resigned number),'' said Konerko, who resigned after last season. ''You've done this rapidly and I know my family and companions truly admired it. It's only a cool thing. I feel truly respected and humbled to have this done as such rapidly after I played.''

Konerko set up himself as one of the top sluggers in White Sox history and helped them end a title dry spell that kept going about nine decades.

He joined greats, for example, Hall of Famer Frank Thomas, Minnie Minoso, Luis Aparicio, Carlton Fisk and Harold Baines as the 11th player to have his number resigned by the White Sox. That incorporates Jackie Robinson, whose No. 42 was resigned by Major League Baseball in 1997.

It was a fitting honor for a six-time All-Star who hit an excellent hammer in Game 2 of the 2005 World Series to help Chicago clear Houston for its first title following 1917.

Konerko went through 16 seasons with the White Sox. He was regarded with a statue keep going season on the outfield concourse. On Saturday, he came back to see his number resigned in great manner. He said thanks to everybody from White Sox executive Jerry Reinsdorf to his first small time administrator Joe Vavra, who is the present seat mentor for the Twins.

The White Sox did whatever is necessary, incorporating having fans in the left-field stands holding up bulletins with Konerko's initials and his number. The initial 20,000 fans got a small statue of Konerko.

On a pleasant evening, it was the second sellout of the season.

Some of his previous partners were in participation, including Jim Thome. Additionally at the service was blunt previous White Sox administrator Ozzie Guillen, who got an overwhelming applause.

''I (composed) his name in the lineup consistently,'' Guillen said. ''He was an extreme child of a weapon. In all honesty, I never at any point got some information about a three day weekend. He did the best with what he had.''
