Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent Introduce Daughter Poppy, Less than a year subsequent to getting married in New York City, creators Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent are tackling their most energetic venture to date: parenthood.
"I've for a long while been itching to be a guardian," Berkus, 43, tells PEOPLE solely. "I had trusted that I would have this chance, however I would not like to do it all alone."
"Up to this point, we didn't think it was conceivable," says Brent, 30. "Anyway, we're blessed to be legitimately hitched and things simply became all-good. We're truly appreciative."
On March 23, the couple invited girl Poppy Brent-Berkus. Encompassed by the surrogate's family and their own, "everyone was as an inseparable unit" for the conception, reviews Brent.
"Surrogacy can be about science, it can be about cash, or it can be about aim," includes Berkus. "We were truly fortunate to have everyone that was included in permitting us to have our girl be energized for us."Our fatherly senses kicked in immediately," he tells PEOPLE. "She turned out with her eyes open, checking out like she had been sitting tight for us."
Sunk into their new parts, the fellows are wired with fervor over Poppy.
"I'm biting on her knee tops when I'm evolving diapers," says Berkus with a chuckle. "Both of my grandmas used to say, 'I need to really begin to tackle you.' And I would think, 'These insane women! That is so gross.' And now I get it."
Jokes Brent, "I discover myself needing to take chomps out of her face or lick her like The Lion King."The team are busier than any time in recent memory with diaper obligation and their professions — Berkus has accumulations sold at Target and Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores and runs Nate Berkus Associates, while Brent is working diligently with his own particular firm, Jeremiah Brent Design — yet they're making a point to keep any emergencies "to another room," says Brent.
"We effectively work to keep the vitality in the house cool. There's constantly music playing," he shares.
With respect to those perpetual evolving sessions, they're really something Berkus anticipates. "I never thought I would be so eager to be 10 inches far from a smudged diaper as I am," he jokes. "I live by her diaper timetable."
As Brent wholes it up, "It's interesting how rapidly things simply become all-go
