The man who lost 180 pounds to join the armed force measured 380 pounds in 2012, when he was reached by an enrollment specialist. He was 180 pounds over the cutoff (200 pounds) for his stature (6'1″) and age. He told his enrollment specialist that he was going to do it "all alone," and that he was resolved to emulate his father's example regardless. His scout has said that Jesse's inspiration and his "great identity" are the keys to what gave him such awesome achievement.
