As Ed Reed retires with Baltimore Ravens, will his advice to Jets' Dee Milliner resonate?

As Ed Reed retires with Baltimore Ravens, will his advice to Jets' Dee Milliner resonate?, It's almost easy to forget that Ed Reed played for the Jets.

It was a mostly unceremonious blip in the future Hall of Fame safety's career, which officially ends Thursday, when Reed will retire at a ceremony held by the Ravens.

Reed played almost his entire career for the Ravens, from 2002-12. In 2013, his final year in the NFL, he spent seven games with the Texans and then seven with the Jets.

So, years from now, the Jets will be the answer to this trivia question: Who was Ed Reed's final team?

Reed — a five-time first-team All-Pro selection and one-time Super Bowl champion — finished his career with 64 interceptions, sixth all-time. He had three picks with the Jets in 2013. His last came in that season's finale, at Miami.

Despite Reed's short time with the Jets, he had a lasting impact on their young defensive players, as he taught them a lot about studying film.

Here is the Jets' weak-side linebacker, fourth-year pro Demario Davis, chiming in on Reed's retirement and impact:On the field, Reed will go down as one of the NFL's greatest ball-hawking safeties. He is the NFL's all-time leader in career interception return yards, with 1,590.

For most of his career, he was a respected voice of leadership, too. Reed said last year that he had "a lot of conversations" in 2013 with Jets cornerback Dee Milliner, then a struggling rookie.I remember having a conversation with him just about being confident and believing in his ability to make a play," Reed said last year. "Because a lot of times, he was in position, but he wouldn't look back or stuff like that. Or he would panic, and the ball would be right there and he just would miss it. It was a matter of just telling him to have the confidence to go up and make the play, believe in your technique, but really getting him to understand to truly trust his technique."

Milliner is entering his third season and has played just 16 total games, including three last season, because of injuries — most notably a torn Achilles tendon last season. As the former first-round draft pick tries to get his NFL career on track in 2015, will Reed's words stick with him?
