1,000 weapons Waco, A report that 1,000 weapons were found at the scene of the Waco biker shootout last Sunday has been walked back by authorities, who now say police actually recovered 318 weapons at the site.
While the number of weapons is smaller than originally reported, Waco Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said it didn't diminish the lawlessness of what happened in the Texas shootout that killed nine and left 18 injured, according to the Dallas Morning News.
"It goes to show the criminal intent," Swanton told reporters at a news conference. "Indicates to the public that these are not clubs, these are criminal gangs that came here with the intent or anticipation of violence."
Authorities said they found guns, knives, batons, body armor and an AK-47, with some of the weapons hidden in the restaurant's kitchen areas, food, vehicles and toilets, between sacks of flour and bags of tortilla chips, noted the Morning News.
"The earlier estimate was an attempt to give me a count and it was initially believed the number was higher than we now know," Swanton said, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald. "We stand corrected."
Waco's Twin Peaks restaurant, the site of the bloody battle between authorities and biker gangs and which was criticized for doing enough about the gathering, issued a statement saying it is cooperating with authorities, according to the Houston Chronicle.
"We continue to be very concerned for the safety and security of everyone involved, including our patrons, staff, management and law enforcement," the Twin Peaks statement said. "We want to reiterate that we are horrified by this violence and express our deepest sympathy to all those impacted by it."
Some 170 people were arrested after the violence erupted on Sunday, reported the Chronicle. Twin Peaks said it has shared surveillance camera footage with police in an effort to determine what happened and when.
"This isn't your church-going crowd that came out to have dinner with the family," Swanton said. "This is gang-oriented criminal element that was in our city to conduct criminal activity."
