US Consulate Erbil, The U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, in conjunction with the U.S. Kurdistan Business Council sponsored a booth at the 2012 Erbil International Trade Fair in Erbil which ran from October 15-18, 2012. The booth showcased U.S.


Consulate General Erbil services including Foreign Commercial Service, EducationUSA, and consular services. The booth also provided information on U.S. companies and universities that could not participate directly at the Trade Fair. U.S. companies represented include 3M, Intel, GE, Hill International, Vermeer, and 84Lumber, as well as several U.S. universities and colleges. Over 10,000 visitors stopped by the U.S. Consulate booth and thousands of brochures, pamphlets and flyers were distributed on studying in the U.S. and doing business with U.S. companies.

Acting Consul General Tim Pounds participated in the opening of the fair with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani on October 15, 2012. The emerging Iraqi economy continues to attract more U.S. businesses looking for sales and investment opportunities.

"We are pleased to participate in the Erbil International Trade Fair for the first time this year," said Acting Consul General Tim Pounds. "Growing U.S. participation in this important fair clearly demonstrates that international companies increasingly view Iraq and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region as attractive and lucrative markets," said Pounds. In regards to the U.S. Kurdistan Business Council, Tim Pounds said, "The USKBC recently brought one of the largest U.S. trade delegations to visit the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. Their presence here is another indication that American firms want to do business with Iraq."
