University of kentucky student shot, Early Friday morning, University of Kentucky junior Jonathan Krueger was shot in the chest. Authorities charged Justin D. Smith for the murder of the 22-year-old student.
In addition to the shooting, Smith was charged with robbery, evasion, and tampering with evidence. Additional suspects are wanted by police.
Authorities told WKYT Krueger was struck by a bullet during the robbery. A friend of Krueger’s who witnessed the incident told authorities two men climbed out of a minivan and accosted Krueger and his friend. Krueger’s watch was stolen, and he tried to throw his wallet at the gunmen. When he reached for his wallet, the witness heard gunshots."The look on his face was just like, incredible. He was in so much shock. He was asking us if like, he could trust us, 'cause he was just scared of anything at that point in time. That was his friend who got shot at so it's terrifying," said Thomas O'Mara, who helped Kreuger’s friend, told WKYT.
"We extend our deepest sympathies to Jonathan's family, friends, faculty members and fellow students," University of Kentucky president Eli Capilouto said. "We have reached out to his family to let them know that we are here to assist them in any way we can at this incomprehensible moment."
