A rep for Minaj, real name Onika Tanya Maraj, did not respond to The Times' requests for comment. So whether accepted the proposal is unclear -- but this gives us ample opportunity to rehash Khaled's memorable offer.
"I want to be honest with you. I love you. I like you. I want you to be mine. I'm here at MTV because it's a worldwide network and the only reason why I'm not telling you face-to-face is 'cause I understand that you're busy," the Miami-based radio host said in the video.
The two have worked together in the past and have a few record labels in common: Cash Money, Republic Records and its offshoot YMCMB, so it's not as if they're complete strangers.Anyway, the We the Best chief exec continues to coax Minaj in the video while romantic music plays over his speech.
"We got the same symptoms, we both suffering from success, you out there touring, you out there hustling, you out there making music, you out there winning. I understand. That's why I feel like you need a man like me in your life that's gonna take care of you and respect you," he added.
(News alert: We believe we've found the former "American Idol" judge's biggest fan.)
"[If] you gotta take your time and think about it, I overstand," he said. "But I know I have to be here today to let you know how serious I am and how serious this is to me."
He said that he wanted to propose last year when they worked on his "Take It to the Head" music video, but didn't.
After his monologue, he wrapped up with this heartfelt question: "Nicki Minaj, will you marry me?"
Then he opened a box he'd been flashing about to reveal a 10-carat engagement ring worth $500,000, MTV reported.
"Your move, Nicki," the subtitle read.
DJ Khaled later told Us Weekly that the proposal was totally legit.
"I want to marry her! I was serious," he said. "She can take her time and think about it. At least she knows how I feel now."
However, he also needed to shut down rumors that the rapper had filed a restraining order against him.
"Y'all know better than that they don't put restraining orders on bosses I'm the DON U witnessing greatness I'm the best that ever did it! JUS KNOW! #sufferingfromsuccess," he wrote Sunday on Instagram.
It should be noted that Khaled has also devoted much of his social media to promoting his seventh album, "Suffering From Success." The album is due out Sept. 24, so if his proposal was true love or a ploy for publicity, we'll soon find out.
