The Spurs (55-27) are entering the postseason as the West's No. 6 seed, but the reigning champions are anything but a slouch team. San Antonio heated up down the stretch when it matters most and only had its 11-game winning streak ended in a pointless regular-season finale against Phoenix in order to rest its key players.
San Antonio's roster has been here before, and it's the team's veteran leadership - Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and now Kawhi Leonard - and their championship rings that has Clippers coach Doc Rivers believing his third-seeded team is the underdogs heading into Sunday.
"We're not going to have their experience. There's no way," Rivers told the Associated Press. "So what? It's a clear advantage. They should have an advantage. They have an advantage over every team playing, not just us. They have an advantage over everybody. They've won titles together, and that you cannot knock off."
Like any savvy veteran, though, Duncan knows every team starts from scratch when the playoffs start and past accomplishments don't mean a thing in the postseason.
"We're starting on the road against one of the hottest teams playing right now," Duncan said. "We're comfortable playing on the road. We've been through just about every situation possible, so we have the capacity and we have the experience to be able to start a series on the road."
Los Angeles (55-26) played well over the last couple months of the season and head into the playoffs with a seven-game winning streak under its belt.
"Yeah, we've had some challenges as a team," said Clippers forward Blake Griffin. "And we're tougher because of it."
