Robert durst weapons charges, State gun charges against billionaire murder suspect Robert Durst have been dropped, his attorneys said Thursday, but he still faces a federal case in Louisiana.
Durst had been hit in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court with state gun-possession charges stemming from his March 16 arrest in New Orleans, when FBI agents found a revolver and marijuana in his hotel room.
So, “it makes sense to try this case in federal court because FBI agents arrested Mr. Durst, and there shouldn’t be two prosecutions, state and federal, at the same time for the same crime,” the New York realty scion’s attorney, Dick DeGuerin, said in an e-mail.
Durst, 72, is being held without bail in Louisiana awaiting extradition to Los Angeles, where he is charged with a 2000 murder.
If convicted in the federal case, he faces up to 10 years behind bars.
