Randy Travis ACM Awards, Country musician Randy Travis is married. Radar Online confirmed that the 55-year-old singer, who suffered a debilitating stoke in 2013, wed his longtime fiancée Mary Davis in Denton, Texas on March 21.
According to the website the duo obtained the marriage license last month and the Rev. Tommy Nelson of Denton Bible Church officiated the ceremony.
The news comes as the singer-songwriter made a surprise appearance at the 50th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night with his new wife.
He received a standing ovation after Lee Brice paid tribute the she star early on in the show while presenting the award for Song of the Year and even sang a verse and chorus of Travis' 1987 hit Forever And Ever, Amen.
Brice said: 'That classic song won Song of the Year in 1987, and the man who sang it has had an amazing comeback to be with us tonight,'
In July 2013, Travis suffered a stroke while being treated for viral cardiomyopathy. He underwent brain surgery and has been slowly recovering every since.
His rep reported last year that his therapist said it wouldn't be out of the question for him to return to the stage - but not for at least three years.
At around the same time the musician was learning to walk again with a cane and was slowly getting his voice back.
After his appearance at the ACMs Travis took to his website with a message for fans, saying: 'It was an amazing gift to feel all of the love from you tonight in Dallas at the Academy of Country Music Awards'
'It has been a hard fought and miraculous journey since my stroke two years ago, and I have gained a greater understanding of God's grace and how quickly events can change us.'
He also thanked his fans for the 'kind cards and heartfelt letters' which he credited for bringing him through the 'darkest days'.
He concluded: 'As I work through music/ speech/ occupational/ physical therapy, it is my hope that my songs of yesterday continue to touch your life in some way,'
