Massive Gas-line Explosion in California leaves 11 people seriously injured, At least 11 people were seriously injured when a gas pipeline exploded on Highway 99 in Central California on Friday. When these incidents occured, traffic was stopped and the firefighters was busy putting out fires.
Three hours later, the road was reopened and traffic became smooth again. Eyewitnesses said that the explosion caused a fire that soars into the sky as far as 100 feet. The incident is believed to be initiated when the process of road widening was done by district equipment operators and prisoners, was touching a pipe which is a natural gas pipeline owned by Pacific Gas & Electric Company.
As a result of this explosion, 10 inmates were hospitalized, while the other three were returned to prison for not seriously injured. In addition to the prisoners, two deputies at the location also evaluated due to minor burns and hearing problem caused by the very loud sound of the explosion.
Kevin Ling, a witness who was passing road at the time of the blast, said that the explosion was spewing fire as far as 200 feet with fireball diameter reached up to 15 meters. Pete Martinez, an officer from the Fresno Fire Department was also gave same opinion. He said that it was a huge explosion that could shake the surrounding area.
