Homaro Cantu’s Show “CookiNG Under Pressure” Debuts Tues

Homaro Cantu’s Show “CookiNG Under Pressure” Debuts Tues, At some point in its short existence, Homaro Cantu‘s iNG went from an offbeat, oftentimes bizarre riff on Asian food that featured a “Flavor Tripping Menu” to themed multi-course menus exclusively.  iNG and Cantu’s other restaurant, neighboring moto have gone through a lot of changes this past year.

iNG‘s original Executive Chef Thomas Bowman and his former Chef de Cuisine there, Nate Park, along with moto’s former Executive Pastry Chef Ben Roche left to open the oh-so-hot Baume & Brix in Chicago’s River North area, while Chris Jones left his Chef de Cuisine position at moto this past summer to spend time with his family before taking a job in San Francisco at Hampton Creek Foods.  Richie Farina, Jones’ Top Chef Texas co-star and former co-worker at moto, took over Jones’ duties as Chef de Cuisine there after he left.

On top of all of these personnel changes, Cantu has been working at a feverish pace these past few months.  From Golden Tickets awarded to patrons at iNG for dinners at moto; to cryptic check-ins at Charlie Trotter’s (where Cantu once worked) after the famed restaurant’s closing (some have speculated that Cantu is taking over the location – perhaps for a new restaurant concept or for the micro-brewery he’s been wanting to open for some time now); to deeply personal, biographical stories unfolded via Facebook; to the current “Scorsese” menu at iNG (all course dishes are based on films made by Academy-Award winning director Martin Scorsese), which ends tomorrow, Tuesday, Novermber 13th (the next menu, based on the Tim Burton/Henry Selick film A Nightmare Before Christmas follows – the idea coming from two diners at iNG as part of yet another contest) – Cantu has been utilizing social networking in a way that puts other Chefs/Restaurateurs to shame.

And that isn’t even all of the Cantu-related news we have for you or the biggest.  As the “Scorsese” menu ends and the A Nightmare Before Christmas one begins, CookiNG Under Pressure, Cantu’s new TV show begins.  Cantu and his team at moto were the subject of a series entitled Future Food (for the now defunct Planet Green channel) a couple of years ago (see Rock ‘n Roll Ghost‘s interview with Cantu and Roche about it here), so he’s no stranger to TV.  But this time, utilizing the power of the internet, the show will not be found conventionally, but instead debut on YouTube.
