Virgin Galactic reveals plans for passenger plane faster than speed of sound, Virgin Galactic has revealed plans for its first passenger plane which will travel three times faster than the speed of sound.
The new plane, which will be developed by Rolls Royce and Virgin, will have a top speed in the range of 3,700km/h.
That means that passengers on the plane could travel from London to New York in less than two hours..
It also means that flights from London to Sydney, Australia would be slashed to just five hours.
Any flights on the planes are likely to be expensive, as they will only be able to hold between nine to 19 passengers per journey.
The plans will also reach 60,000ft cruising altitude, which is much higher than the height at which passenger planes currently travel.
The companies have worked with NASA and will work with the US aviation regulator, the FAA, on the concept Mach 3 plane.
