Windows 10 Release Date

Windows 10 Release Date, Speaking at AMD’s quarterly earnings call, the company’s Chief Executive Lisa Su had some interesting quips about Windows 10 and its possible release date.

According to Ars Technica, Su was quoted at the conference call as having said that AMD’s second half of 2015 will see “a stronger PC market than the first half, due to the launch of Windows 10.”  Her comments, seemingly made off-the cuff, may not say anything yet regarding Windows 10 and its previously-teased late 2015 release, but she did add later on that AMD would have to “factor in” Windows 10’s release “at the end of July.”

Windows 10 is expected to be released to consumers in the fall of 2015, so a late July release date would mean a much earlier arrival than what was once thought.  Windows 10 is already confirmed to be a free upgrade for anyone currently on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows Phone 8.1, and is said to be a combination of the Windows 8 and “classic” Windows user experiences.  For example, the platform will feature the comebacking Start menu, but will also come with newfangled features such as extended personalization options for apps, people, websites, and more, and one-click access to frequently used or opened files and programs.

Aside from the Start menu’s return, Windows 10 will also feature Cortana support.  The virtual assistant was originally the main come-on for Windows Phone 8.1, but in Windows 10, Cortana will appear as a search box next to the Start button.  You’ll still be able to dictate instructions to her, may it be to simply open a desktop app, or to dictate an entire email.
