Tiger Woods announces he will play at Players Championship, Tiger Woods announced Friday via Twitter he will be making his next start in The Players Championship, the PGA Tour's flagship event.

The tournament at TPC Sawgrass is May 7-10.

"Looking forward to going back to THE PLAYERS this year, hoping for a repeat of 2013," he tweeted.

Woods, who also won the Players in 2001, last played in the Masters earlier this month. Coming off a nine-week layoff as he went in seclusion to work on his game, the winner of four green jackets tied for 17th.

Woods, now was the player of the year in 2013 with five wins but is now ranked No. 106, will be making his fourth start of the season. He opened the year by missing the cut in the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where he shot a career-worst 82 and battled alarming chipping problems.

The following week, he withdrew after 11 holes in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, where he's won a record eight times. Woods said his back stiffened during a fog delay before the first round.

In the Masters Woods shot rounds of 73-69-68-73. In the final round, he injured his wrist while hitting a shot off the pine straw on the ninth hole. Two days later his agent, Mark Steinberg, said the wrist was fine.

Woods did not qualify for next week's World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play.
