Rebecca francis giraffe, Extreme hunter Rebecca Francis has become the hunted by enraged social media users, who said they hoped she “dies a horrible painful death”.

The abuse came to a head today after comedian Ricky Gervais posted an image of Ms Francis with the giraffe. He wrote: “What must've happened to you in your life to make you want to kill a beautiful animal & then lie next to it smiling?”

In response other users have taken to posting messages of disgust.

@DirtyHippyDalek tweeted: “May that horrible woman die a lonely, painful death.”Michael Blochberger wrote: “I hope they get hit by lightning. Twice. Consecutively.”

One social media user acknowledged the irony of animal rights activists sending death threats.

@AsapGinger1 wrote: “I know this is very hypocritical of me but i want to f****** shoot her just for this picture.”

Francis, who grew up in Utah, in America, was the winner of US reality television series Extreme Huntress.

She learnt how to hunt from an early age and has killed wild animals including a 10ft brown bear, moose, antelopes, zebra, wildebeest and a lynx. She shoots her prey with a bow and arrow, or sometimes a rifle, and has posted numerous snaps of her kill on her Facebook. In one photograph she stands over a dead moose.

In all photographs she stands with a beaming smile, much to the outrage of her social media foes. She writes on her website: “I believe that you should live life to the fullest with no regrets, and push yourself to the limit. If you don’t experience everything you can in life, you’ll miss out on some irreplaceable memories.

“Life is so short and so wonderful that I don’t want to miss out on a single second.”

But Simon Swinton tweeted: “Kill her and let's lay next to her.”
