Jury Seated in Trial of Accused Colorado Theater Shooter James Holmes

Jury Seated in Trial of Accused Colorado Theater Shooter James Holmes, A jury will decide the fate of James Holmes, the man accused of opening fire in a Colorado movie theater in 2012.

On Tuesday, attorneys selected 24 people – 12 jurors and 12 alternates – who will listen to the testimony and render a verdict.

Nineteen of the 24 jurors and alternates are women; five are men.

It has been a difficult road to seat a jury. More than 9,000 potential jurors were summoned – the largest-ever jury pool in American history. They spent weeks filling out lengthy questionnaires.

The court winnowed the jury pool down to several hundred. For the next two months, they answered one-on-one questions from the prosecution and defense.

Holmes faces the death penalty for the shooting that killed 12 people and injured 70 others. Opening arguments will begin on April 27.
