Mississippi man arrested over ricin laced letters to Obama, Sen. Wicker

Mississippi man arrested over ricin laced letters to Obama, Sen. Wicker, Officials arrested a Mississippi man after letters laced with a deadly toxin were sent to President Barack Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker R-Miss., according to an April 17, 2013 USA Today report.

The publication notes that the White House was on alert after the discovery of the ricin laced correspondence was made.

KABC 7 reports that Paul Kevin Curtis was arrested at his home in Corinth at 5:15 p.m. CDT.

After a number of other senators reported receiving suspicious mail, authorities closed down areas of two Senate buildings Wednesday for a short period of time.

Following an investigation into three packages, each was determined to be safe, reports KABC.

The Chicago Tribune reports the FBI said there is no indication the letters are connected in any way to the Boston Marathon bombings that took place Monday, killing 3 and leaving 176 others injured.

The phrase, “To see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance,” was contained in the letters and each was signed, “I am KC and I approve this message.”

The postmarks indicate the letters were sent on April 8 from Memphis, Tenn. Nevertheless, the Tribune reports that an aide to Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton stated the letters may not have originated in Memphis, as some neighboring areas, including northern Mississippi include Memphis in its postmark.
